Living Stone Farm

The Why

My name is Paola and two years ago we decided to buy a farm and work towards self-sustainability. Why would we ever want to do that? There are many reasons, one of which is that farm life is an incredible educational opportunity for us. Another is the joy and excitement that it brings us.

We want to show our children that those who decide to take ownership over the choices that they make, can have a really fulfilling life. In addition, how all our actions have a reaction.

We are able to show our children the circle of life. Simply put, to grow something one must plant it, water it, and tend to it. If we do, the fruit will grow later. This becomes a metaphor for other things in our lives.

Of course, it’s important to have placed the right seed to get the right crop growing. If we plant tomato seeds were not going to end up with cucumbers or spinach, we will get tomatoes. Through this we can teach our children to be purposeful in their actions.

We started our farm in April 2020 just shortly after the pandemic had started. As we worked the land, we found ourselves continuously getting excited seeing the amount of food we were producing and our discovery that the birds we were raising were the tastiest birds that we’ve ever eaten. Also, knowing that they were and are really healthy animals puts our minds at ease.

To this day, we know that all the effort we are putting into this farm, all these small steps we’re doing now towards self-sustainability, will give us bigger benefits in the future while teaching our family important life lessons along the way.
